Tohoku uni gospel report

”只今4月2日東北旅行から帰って参りました”、略してタダイマ。
前回はFREE行けなくてごめぇん。ちょうどその時間、東北大でゴスペルの練習に参加させてもらっちゃいました。俺は他のクワイヤーで練習するのは初めてで、いろいろ刺激を受けたので参加報告しまーす。（一番最後にまとめビデオがありまする。）

高校時代の友達がそのサークルの元副代表で混ぜさせてもらいました。サークル名「ゴシップ」は「ゴスペルなんとかフェローシップ」の略らしく、副代表であった彼が”なんとか”と言ってたのでそのまま書きます（笑）。しかし「gossip」かと思ってた俺はちょっと安心。神様でなくgossip=噂話に耳を傾けちゃう人間の本質をついてるのかと思った。

そのルーツに面白い事実発覚！
この間洋光台教会でビデオをとってくれたエリヤ君と俺の友達と3人で牛タン食べながら語ってると、初めは仙台CCCスタッフの二人が始めて、5年ほど前に学生だけで活動するようになり、以来ゴスペルを歌い続けているとのこと。スタッフが働いてた頃は教会などで練習していたが、今は教室や市民センターで練習しているみたい。

ま、みんなのjoyful joyfulでも見ながら以下お楽しみくださーい。
今回の練習場所は市民センターでした。
普段学校ある時は週2回、水2時間、土4時間。しかし今は春休み中で週3、今日の練習時間は15時～20時。わぉFREEの2.5倍の時間だ。

発声練習が40分間！最後にやったハレルヤ発声は、ゴシップ人気も高く、ここでみんなのテンションがあがるらしい。これ東京でも真似してイイ？って聞いたら是非どうぞと言われたので今度やろー♪

とにかくパート練がヤバい。各曲に対してパート練が3/4くらいの時間を占める。その後全体で気になるところを数回通してから全部通して、休憩、次の曲へ、って感じ。
しかしそのパート練、各パートリーダーがむっちゃ準備してくる。執行代が1年の終わりから2年らしく、1年生（新2年生）の人が全体を引っ張ってた。そのせいもありパート練ではある人が教えるというより、全員から活発に質問や意見が飛び交い充実していた。

といて、各曲に曲リーがいて、その曲で誰がソロを歌うかサークル全体でオーディションをし、どんな雰囲気で歌うかを細かく決め、パーリーに告げて、パーリーはそれを元にパート練を組み上げる。毎回練習は録音してて全体か幹部かでネット共有してるみたい。曲リーはそれを細かくチェックし次回の練習でここをもっと気をつけてと注意点を洗う。

曲は互いに持ち寄り、先輩やyoutubeから得た好きな曲から選ぶみたい。バンドがいないので海外のサイトからカラオケバージョンを買い、それを使って歌う。

でも練習が5時間と長丁場もあり後半は上級生の一言で場がシンとしてしまうシーンもあった。それだけみんな発音や音に真剣だった。指摘も非常に細かい。男子はみんな学年を越えて仲いい感じがしてとにかく人数が多かった。一つの曲ではテナーとバスに別れるところもあった。しかし残念なことに男子の人数が多く女性の声量が少ないので、声を常に抑え気味に出してあまり解放感がなかったかな。全体として「原曲のきれいなコピー」感があってなんとなくICU高校の感じを受けた（分かるかな？去年ICU高校で一緒にコンサートさせてもらったことがあったんだ）。

クリスチャンが一人いて、彼にたまに歌詞の意味を聞いたりするみたいなんだけど、基本歌詞の意味はあんまみないみたい。Oh happy dayでは歌詞カードがwash→watchになっていてみんなそう歌っていたり。

休憩時間中にテナー1年生のパーリーの子に東京ではどんな風に練習してるか聞かれた俺は、パート練の凄さに感激したこと、ピアノ3台もなくリーダーが歌うのを真似してること、時にみんなで聖書開いて曲に関連する聖句読んでディスカッションしたりすることなど伝えたら、
「聖書とか読むべきなんでしょうが、僕らは読んでないんす、すみません」と謝られてしまった。いやいや謝らんでくれ。でも彼らは”宗教”に関することに自分たちは触れつつも関わらないことがちょっと気になるようで、「ゴスペルソングでも私たちが歌うとゴスペルじゃないのかな？」とご飯食べた後、一緒に大貧民しながら言う子もいた。そこからゴスペルの定義ってなんだろ？って話にもなったけど、神様絡むと抵抗感じる人も多いらしく、歌詞の意味考えるときも「なんか大切な人」に置き換えて考えることもあるみたい。

俺も、ゴスペルってなんだろ？俺が歌ってる理由はなんだろって思った。元々やっぱり黒人霊歌というだけあり、解放された喜びの歌だよね。ってとこでその次の日読んだ聖句より。詩編１３：６。

PSA 13:6 私は主に歌を歌います。
主が私を豊かにあしらわれたゆえ。

■「主が私を豊かにあしらわれたゆえ」に歌う。黒人霊歌の元々のspiritもこんな感じだよね。あしらうって変な感じだけど、英語だとdeal=取り扱うって感じで、俺たちの取り扱い注意なとこは知ってて、壊れやすい場所、常にツツいてないと堅くなっちゃう場所など、知り尽くして取り扱う=あしらう的な感じかなって思ったわけじゃが。まぁつまり神様が俺らを知った上で豊かにホドコしてくれたのに対して歌うんだな、と。
それを思うと一緒に歌ったhosannaとか歌詞見てwhatever the test You will bring us throughとか「どんな無理と思った状況でも導き通してくれる」こと、we can't live without You, we can't breathe without You, we can't sing without You, だから歌えるしだから歌うんだね！ゴシップのみんなも歌詞の意味じっくり考えてくれるといいな☆「クワイヤー同士でいつか交流したいね」って言ったら超乗り気だった♪さて、神様は仙台までもつなげてくれる機会をいつ与えてくださるでしょうか！？祈ってよっと。

いやーでもゴスペルに熱い人が多いよ。Israelのコンサートのために東京まで来て高いチケットで入ったって人もいたし、帰り送ってくれた車の中ではちょうど3声そろったっつうことで何曲か大合唱したし☆
そしてHosannaはみんなのお気に入りの曲らしく、全員のノリが他の曲と全然違った。クレイジーで楽しかったよ♪

I'm home from my Tohoku trip. sorry i couldn't join rehearsal. I was singing with the Tohoku uni gospel choir just at the same time as FREE. it was my first time to join practice of another choir, so I'll do a little report.

I was surprised to find out that it originally started from two staffs of Sendai CCC. (we found out while eating cow toungue with Eriya, who kindly videoed us @ yokodai church yokohama). They used to practice in churches but now they practice in classrooms etc.

Their practice today was from 3pm-8pm. wow 2.5 times the length of FREE.
They usually have 2 or 3 practices a week.
Warm up was for 40mins! The last "Hallelujah warm up" seems to be their favourite and they start being FREE. I asked if I can try this in Tokyo and they said of course so let's do it next time♪

I just gatta say that the practice in parts are awsome. for each song they practice in parts for three quarters of the time. after that they sing together a specific part, sing the whole song, rest, go on to the next song and so on.

the leaders of each parts prepare so much. the leading year are the 2nd years so the youngest was leading now. maybe because of that too, but rather than one person teaching the practice in parts was very active and fruitful with everyone's questions and opinions flying across.

They have a leader, sub leader, 3 part leaders, each song leader.
The song leader thinks of how to sing, has an audition to chose who sings solo, tells the part leader, and the part leader considers and prepares for the part practice. They record every practice and share via internet to listen to it. The song leader checks and thinks of where to be careful next time.

They chose songs together bringing their favourite songs picked from youtube or a recommendation from their seniors. They don't have a band so they buy a karaoke version of the songs from abroad websites.

Practice was 5 hours long so there were scenes in the latter half when they became low spirited with one voice of a senior. But thats how serious they were towards sounds and pronunciations. Opinions were very precise too. The guys seemed to be close to each other despite age difference and there were many. One song they even had to parts for guys. But sadly there are many guys compared to the volume of girls, so they always have to supress themselves and doesn't feel much "broken chained"=FREE. As a whole it seemed like they were making a clean copy of the original, somewhat like ICU high school (we had a concert with them last year)

I heard there's one christian, and they ask the meaning occasionally, but mostly they don't think of the meanings of the lyrics. They printed lyrics in "Oh happy day" one verse said "watch" in place of "wash" and they sang "He taught me how to watch"

During break, the tenor part leader (freshman, now 2nd year) asked me how we practice in Tokyo. I told him I was astonished by the part practice here, that we don't have three pianos so we listen to what our leader sings, that when we have time we read the bible and discuss the lyrics. He said "I know we should read the bible and stuff but we just don't. Sumimasen." and I was appologized. wo wo please don't appologize. But they seemed to feel some anxiousness that they are involved in "religous" stuff but not considering of relating themselves to it. One said "Is it still gospel songs when WE sing it?" while we were playing cards. Then together talked what the definition of gospel songs might be, but many people seems to resist stuff about God so when they think of the lyrics they tend to replace it with "an important person" to themselves.

I myself thought what gospel songs are, why I'm singing. Originally it was a spiritual black gospel so a rejoicing song of freedom, right? I was reading the bible the next day. Psalms 13:6.

PSA 13:6 I will sing to the LORD, because he has dealt bountifully with me.

■We sing because "He has dealt bountifully with me". The original black gospel spirit is the same kind of spirit right? The word "deal" seems kinda weird but I thought God knows precisely where to be carful when "dealing" with me. The parts where is easy to break, where it hardens unless been kept poken at, knows every area how to "deal" with me. So I sing for He has bountifully dealt by knowing every part of me.
When I thought of this and looked at the lyrics of "Hosanna" again, saying...
"whatever the test You will bring us through"
"we can't live without You, we can't breathe without You, we can't sing without You"
Thats why we can sing and thats why we sing! I hope these friends will think of the lyrics too☆ I said to them "It would be great if both choirs meet someday" and they seemed so excited to the idea♪ Well, when will God give us the oppurtunity to relate us to Sendai!? I'll have it in my prayers...

Hey but there were many who are really passionate towards gospel songs. One came all the way to Tokyo and bought tickets just to come to Israel's concert. And the way home in the car, there were one of each part so we just sang and sang. Hosanna seems to be everyone's favourite, and everyone was enjoying like no other song. They were fun and crazy☆
